Andrew Mitchell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and became a Christian at the age of 10. Although he had a strong desire to go into the ministry through his teens, he ended up getting a place to read Law at University and decided that a legal career was his preferred direction.

God had other plans though and whilst Andrew was working in London during a gap period after school, he started to feel an overwhelming sense that there was a more specific "calling" for his life. He says "nobody ever talked to me about callings as I grew up, but somehow I had an instinctive desire to know if God had a specific one just for meÑtrouble was, I don't think I really expected an answer!"

God already was answering though and going back home to Edinburgh to think and pray for a while, Andrew started to feel that he was being called into music ministry. It was the last thing on earth he'd ever imagined doing and was utterly convinced God had made a mistake. Again he says "I was terrified and felt totally inadequate. I couldnÕt believe God would want to use a rough diamond like me to somehow glorify Him. I just wanted to run in the opposite direction." Needless to say at that point, Andrew had never sung publicly or written any songs and because he'd never wanted to become a Worship Leader, he literally had none of the skills associated with that job. But during that long time of seeking God's will and trying hard to listen, the Lord made it clear that this calling to music ministry was to ultimately become a world-wide work. And whilst He wouldn't stand in Andrew's way if he chose his own path, Law simply wasn't His perfect will or plan for his life.

A few years on and its clear Andrew has changed enormously as a person because of the journey he's been on. If you speak with him today, you will find he has no sense of "self" regarding the job he now doesÑthe seven year desert where he wrestled with God before finally accepting His calling, pretty much put paid to that. If you compliment his passionate and anointed song-writing he will instantly give it all back to the Father saying, "they are God's songsÑI have no earthly possession of them, just a heavenly stewardship." If you admire his abilities now and mastering of skills that make up the various facets of his work, he will tell you that every gift came about and continues to grow because of God's faithful outpouring and that "our human limitations are simply not big enough to impede God's supernatural impartation when we surrender and say 'yes' to Him."

So if you're hungry to be led in true Christ-centred worship and thirsty to pour out your love for God with worship songs written and led by someone who lives to know the Father more, then discover the heart of Andrew Mitchell, his passion and his praiseÑhe is the real deal.
